<thetext>SUMMARY
There's currently no way to change date format in the digital clock without restarting Plasma. I wish Digital clock could immediately react to the change I make to the date/time format in the Formats KCM (or alternatively there could be a Digital clock-specific configuration dialog where one could change the format.)

Use case: I'm using US formats/locale, but prefer writing date in the YYYY-MM-DD format to make it less ambiguous for people across the globe. The Japanese format is pretty close and I will use it for now for date/time only.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

> Why does this result in wanting to change what's shown in the digital clock?

I can then use the digital clock as a cheatsheet for writing the date somewhere, e.g. in a doc, without brainpower.

Wait... it seems like the digital clock's context menu has a feature to copy the current date in the clipboard, and it always includes the "2021-05-16" format. Not sure why it's always there, independent of the locale date/time.</thetext>

<thetext>Another, perhaps simpler use case: Plasma is set up with American English settings for all entries in Region & Language. I then right-click the digital clock applet, choose "Set Time Format" and it launches the Region & Language KCM. I expect that changing "Time" there will then update the time format in the digital clock applet since it's what launched the KCM in the first place, but nothing happens until Plasma is restarted.</thetext>

    <thetext>Marco you commented:

> in general on the fly language (or any other aspect of locale) change is not supported yet

Sounds to me like when this support is on-the-fly support is added it will resolve this implicitely and I'm marking this as RESOLVED / LATER for now. If this is re-opened we should change it to a wishlist item I think.</thetext>
