New created .txt files will get a .desktop extension automatically. It doesn't matter whether a .txt file is created in Dolphin or on the Desktop (right click => "Create New" => "Text File). Every simple .txt file will become a desktop configuration file. example.txt => example.txt.desktop IIRC this problem doesn't exist in KDE 4.8.0.
