<thetext>Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS: Linux

reply to uses the "to" from the original message as sender not the one which is selected in the composer

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
create to accounts and 2 identities
reply incoming mail from one account using identity from other account

Actual Results:
identity from incoming mail isused regardless what identity is selected in the identity

Expected Results:
take the selected identity

IMHO the values (identities and others) selected in the composer must have highest priority.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop
Compiler: gcc</thetext>

<thetext>Same problem here, identity setting is ignored not just when original To address is different, but in some other cases too (unable to pinpoint it exactly, may have some relationship to GPG signig too). Noticed it only after upgrade from 4.9.3 to 4.9.4 .

<thetext>On my machine Kmail behaves as expected. It replies from the default sender of the identity. BUT it fails to do so when I (e.g.) reply on an email in my inbox when that email is from someone who also has an account in my Kmail.
Then suddenly Kmail forgets the default sender as set in the identity. It takes the wrong sender.
If I reply from my inbox to a "stranger" then it behaves 100% ok</thetext>

<thetext>I have multiple IMAP accounts configured. If I reply to one of those (eg send from IMAP-1 to IMAP-2 then reply) I find that KMail replies to the original recipient's address ("to") and not the sender ("from"). However, if I reply to someone else, KMail replies correctly to the sender.

This only happens with the 'Reply' button. If I use 'Reply to Sender' (or Shift-A), it works fine.</thetext>

    <thetext>KMail 4.13.3

using Pop and SMTP, bug always reproductible.

Tip : do not use "reply" but "reply to author" instead</thetext>

<thetext>This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.</thetext>

<thetext>(In reply to Denis Kurz from comment #6)
> Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it
> again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one
> unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.

Just got bitten by this, Kmail 5.4.3 Fedora rpms, latest updates installed yesterday.

This bug is 16 years old:
bug 20328 2001-02-12 Identity settings do not work when sending mail
bug 121738 2006-02-11 Wrong identity selected on "New Message"
bug 279504 2011-08-06 reply to does not use selected user identity (this report)

Having different roles in business environment is essential. Having them leaking to wrong parters is really embarrasing.</thetext>
