There even is a kdesdk/kate/data/default.katesession where defaults can be set. Anders had the plan to remove the concept again and move all config options back to katerc, which makes sense. In KDE3 the setting was usually "save session at exit". Anonymouse sessions should write back to katerc then. Btw. the concept of a fixed and not deletable "Default" session does not exist in KDE4. It only existed in KDE3.
