<thetext>Version: 1.8.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, Debian Package 4:3.4.1-1 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.10

I use IMAP and discovered a bug in email reply handling. Example - everytime I got an email with attachements, I click on it, and see the message body and read the mail. But by default attachements are not fetched so no matter how big they are I see the message body quickly and then can fetch the attachements on demand. But now I with to reply to such mail with attachement. So I hit "Reply" and instead of just opening the message composition window, kmail fetches the whole message first, including all the attacheents. Unfortunately this is completely pointless and wastes both time and bandwidth - first of all kmail just got what's it needs for the reply - the message text is already downloaded ('cos I'm just stering at it). Second - fetching attachements makes no sense - kmail as any other MUA quotes just message body, stipping any attachements for reply.</thetext>

<thetext>This is indeed a chore. Also, selecting some already-displayed text and then hitting reply does not copy just that text into the reply as it does with non-attachment messages; the entire message is downloaded and then the attachments are dumped as described above.</thetext>

<thetext>yes, i have the same problems.
When i get a mail with a big attachment Kmail has problems. Not only when i want to reply, also when i try to delete this mail? I guess it is not necessary to download the attachment when i want to delete a message.</thetext>

<thetext>> I guess it is not necessary to download the attachment when
> i want to delete a message.

Actually, when the deletions go to your local Trash (as they do by default, I think), it is necessary...

If you want to dispatch them completely, hold Shift, while pressing Delete.

In this particular case KMail is doing the right thing, I think... But it is wrong in others :-(</thetext>

<thetext>Yup.. happening to me too... Extremely annoying.

This has to be an easy fix... yet this bug is one year old... and still unconfirmed!?!

I'm running KMail 1.9.4 (Kubuntu Dapper).</thetext>
