Version: 3.3.92 (using KDE 3.3.92 (beta2), Gentoo) Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 20050110 (Gentoo Linux 3.4.3.20050110, ssp-3.4.3.20050110-0, pie-8.7.7) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.10-gentoo-r7 Some animated gifs (from www.w3schools.com and rollingstone.com that I know of...) crash all of KDE. They don't take up CPU resources like other bug reports have shown. I have isolated one which causes it, and will upload it as an attachment.
I'm marking this a "grave" because it's very important not to crash an entire system when diplaying a web page...
Created attachment 9581 [details] Crashes KDE When using latest for CVS-HEAD (but has been happening for a couple of months - took me a while to isolate), this image will crash all of KDE, and X-windows. The only solution is a hard reboot. This image is from http://www.w3schools.com - there are other "evil" animated gifs around - but they are kind of hard to isolate... This image will not crash opera or firefox, and since it is not animated in kuickshow or kview, it doesn't crash when loaded in those programs as well. When loaded in konqueror (either embedded within a web page, or loaded directly from the file browser), it crashes. Previous to crashing, the CPU is normal - it doesn't appear to be CPU-related.
Warning - opening this file in konqueror *will* lock your computer... :)
I can't reproduce this with KDE 3.4_beta1. The image displays nicely here. But something else happens - Konqueror's "world icon" doesn't stop turning, indicating that it's still loading.
I cannot confirm this, too. But yes, the world icon turns on, see #4. Does this always occur with animated GIFs?
Still existing in head...
Works fine here (KDE 3.4-rc1 compiled from sources, x86_64) - image displays nicely - konqueror's world icon is OK too (i,e it does not turn)
This is most likely related to the NVIDIA drivers - see a discussion at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47502. I have disabled "RenderAccel" as suggested in this thread, and have not had any problems since.
