Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.91) Installed from: Compiled From Sources OS: Linux SystemTray2 adds some nice functionality that seems missing in SystemTray. System Tray 2 lives here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=17732 These really nice features are: - being able to change the "arrow" icon that expands/contracts the System Tray area - being able to specify a priority for the icons therein (being able to specify that the battery applet's icon is _always_ left-most, etc.) - being able to animate the collapse/expansion, just as kicker itself does with the collapse/expansion of the taskbar Those are the ones that come to mind. There might be more. Would it be possible to include these features in KDE proper so that users can have more flexibility/functionality without having to compile/build/install an external application? Thanks!!
I think aseigo has some nice features in mind for the system tray applet, for KDE 4.
it is truly sad that the ksystemtray2 coder decided to fork the applet rather than work with the mainline code =( but there isn't much that can be done. btw, in future please put EACH wish in a SEPARATE report. otherwise it makes keeping track of the reports much harder for me, which in turn makes me far less motivated to implement your wishes. and trust me, it's far more time for me to do the coding than it is for you to file a few extra reports. ;) '- being able to change the "arrow" icon that expands/contracts the System Tray area ' no. this follows your icon theme and always will. there is no reason to allow this other than because it's technically possible to do so. ' - being able to specify a priority for the icons therein (being able to specify that the battery applet's icon is _always_ left-most, etc.) ' this is already planned and the GUI supports this to some extent already. ' - being able to animate the collapse/expansion, just as kicker itself does with the collapse/expansion of the taskbar ' there's another wishlist for this and there's even a patch worked on. so this one is a dupe. so once the second item is taken care of, i'll close this report. maybe even for 3.4. we'll see.

I was actually wondering if he'd contacted you before doing it, and I guess this means the answer is now. Too bad. > > btw, in future please put EACH wish in a SEPARATE report. otherwise it makes keeping track of > the reports much harder for me, which in turn makes me far less motivated to implement your > wishes. and trust me, it's far more time for me to do the coding than it is for you to file a few > extra reports. ;) =:) Okay. Sorry about that. I'll try to remember this for the future. > > '- being able to change the "arrow" icon that expands/contracts the System Tray area ' > > no. this follows your icon theme and always will. there is no reason to allow this other than > because it's technically possible to do so. Hmmm. Okay, I guess I understand your reasoning. It's not like you can change individual icons elsewhere, so this fits with the rest of KDE. > > ' - being able to specify a priority for the icons therein (being able to specify that the battery applet's icon is _always_ left-most, etc.) ' > > this is already planned and the GUI supports this to some extent already. Yeah, this confuses me. The priority/up/down arrows are on the right-hand side, next to the invisible icons. I guess I was looking for the same ability for those in the left hand side, since those are the ones that are... visible. =:) > > ' - being able to animate the collapse/expansion, just as kicker itself does with the collapse/expansion of the taskbar ' > > there's another wishlist for this and there's even a patch worked on. so this one is a dupe. > > so once the second item is taken care of, i'll close this report. maybe even for 3.4. we'll see. Sounds good. =:) Thanks Aaron!! =:)
