Description Wiebe Cazemier 2004-10-12 17:03:35 UTC
Version: 3.3 (using KDE 3.3.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.27

Even when the mouse is set to "double click to open files", a single click on a directory in the konquerer tree-view is enough to show the contents of that dir, as it should be. But after a while, a double click on a directory in the tree-view is required. I haven't been able to detect what the cause of this is, it just appears to happen in a konquerer window which is open for some time.

This behaviour was not present in KDE 3.2.3.

I've seen this behavior just today with KDE 3.5.2 as well. It was after I had adjusted something in Control Center > KDE Components > File Associations while a Konqueror file manager window was open. It has also happened in KDE 3.4.3 more than once. I have also (just now) been able to reproduce this behavior by changing the Peripherals > Mouse > Icons setting in Control Center from "single click to open files" to "double-click to open files" with a file manager window running. This has also triggered this bug in the past. After this, the left tree pane in Konqueror (not the tree view mode on the right pane) no longer responds to a single-click on folders--Konqeror has to be restarted for the original behavior to return, where single-clicks in the tree pane open folders, while double-clicks open folders and files in the right pane.

I have Konqueror preloading disabled, in case that matters.

I just tried your steps to reproduce (changing from "single click to open" to "double click to open"), and it indeed triggers the bug. I'm using KDE 3.4.2 here.

I have preloading enabled, three instances. It would appear that the preloaded instances don't suffer from this bug.

Confirmed as described in comment #2 on SVN r575787

I can confirm that this bug exists in KDE3.5.8. After changing a file association it is neccesary to double click in the directory tree to the left in konqueror to show the contents of other directories.

Debian Unstable:
konqueror 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-1
kdebase-bin 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-1
kdelibs4c2 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-2

Basically the same thing seems to be happening in trunk (r837737), although with some minor differences: when I switch to double-click mode while a konqueror window is open, the icon view in that window remains in single-click mode, while the sidebar tree switches to double-click mode.

In a konqueror window opened after the double-click mode is set, the sidebar tree is in single-click mode, while the icon view (in the main pane) is in double click mode.

Cannot reproduce using current KDE 4.4 trunk. The bug has been fixed.
