Description Michael Thalmann 2004-08-23 20:11:55 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

From MacOSX with the official X11 installed, I ssh into linux-server and start kwrite. For example:

ssh 192.168.100.1 -X
kwrite &

Key '/' gives shift + up , and key '*' gives shift + right! All other keys including umlauts are ok! If I open for example the open file dialog in kwrite and type a filename into the textbox, the keys give / and * respectively. I use German as the keyboard layout on OSX and on the linux-box.

This isn't exactly the same as bug #88188 in that I can use / just fine, + and * are the issues and I can't use shift-up or down, I'm running it locally, not through ssh, and (I think) I'm using a standard 104 key US layout. It still may be the same underlying issue though, just wanted to let you know the differences between what I posted and this one.
Comment 3 Anders Lund 2004-11-20 20:24:18 UTC
Shouldn't this be reassigned to kdelibs or even Qt? Katepart does not do anything special to *, + or / that I know of.
Comment 4 Eli 2004-11-22 07:05:25 UTC
Anders: I would agree with you except it only happens in programs that use this (eg. kate, kwrite, quanta) and I have yet to find a problem using anything else (though to be honest I don't use a WHOLE lot else... konqueror mostly)
Comment 5 Christoph Cullmann 2005-03-24 18:25:15 UTC
if this is at all a valid bug, than on kdelibs or qt level, kate doesn't handle this keys in any special way and doesn't work around the kdelibs/qt infrastructure for keyhandling at all :)
Comment 6 Eli 2005-03-24 19:10:55 UTC
in that case why would it only happen in kate or kate based programs?
Comment 7 Michael Thalmann 2005-04-03 23:48:24 UTC
I'm very happy that KDE 3.4 has solved the problems!
