Description Hasso Tepper 2004-08-16 08:59:35 UTC
Version: 3.3 (using KDE 3.3.0, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-ipv6conntrack

Somewhere between 3.2 and 3.3 ugly space appeared between Konqueror view (statusbar) and window border (see konq-broken1.png). It isn't very annoying most of time, but in some rare cases (I don't understand what triggers this) this space appears wider (see konq-broken2.png). What's annoying - all new Konqueror windows appear with this big space (caching?) after that. Only way to get rid of it is to crash Konqueror.

Found the way to reproduce huge space between statusbar and window border.
1) Move to the directory containing some checked out cvs copy.
2) Switch to cervisia view. Huge space is already there, but with strange rectangle in the corner.
3) Whatever you do now (start browsing web, switch views), space will be there.

It doesn't explain a little space problem though (attachment #1 [details]).

I really hate the "little space" between status bar and window decoration. It wastes Precious desktop space. try switching KDE to 800x600 and 640x480 (though it is not supported) but ugliness is there because of this "unnecessary space".

I think why most of the KDE developers are unable to see the "small space" is because they use 1024x768+ resolution. please use krandr to switch to 800x600 resolution and observe the *hidden ugliness* of the statusbar.

btw, the small and big space really make Konqueror's status bar ugly! The kmail's status bar is neat and informative though.

could you be kind to konqueror to have a nice statusbar like kmail? thanks.

I confirm this bug - it is present with many embedded kparts in konqueror, especially media players. It happens when the extra statusbar/toolbar of the kpart lingers upon the switch to another view/kpart.

This behaviour has been fixed in KDE 4. It will not be fixed in the KDE 3 versionof konqueror which is no more mantained.
