Description Nial 2004-08-05 09:49:42 UTC
Version: kile1.6.3 (using KDE KDE 3.2.3)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux

Program: Kile 1.6.3, kile 1.6.2
OS: Linux
Distribution: Fedora core 2
Kernel: 2.6.5
qt version: qt-3.3
kde version: 3.2.2

Problem:
When compliling from source, it is posible to congigure ( ./configure --prefix=/usr --where-qt-dir=/usr/bin/qt-3.3 or something like that ).
However when it comes to make it returns an error "/usr/lib/ld: can not find -lselinux".

The makefile in question is under "kile1.6.*/kile/", the makefiles for the dir's under 'kile' are fine.

Tried:
Have looked for any reference to -lselinux in makefiles with out any luck.
Have tried kile1.6.2 & kile1.6.3 with the same problem for both.

Suspiosions:
The problem is mostlikey with 'fedora core 2'

That's odd, did you (or tried) to install SELinux? SELinux is Secure Linux, a
kernel add-on provided by the NSA (yeah, that's the National Securtiy Agency
of the USA). You can try to find the selinux library (usually a file
beginning with libselinux), and include the directory in which this file
resides in the library path.

Thinks so too. Of course Kile does not need SELinux (unless you want to write
top secret LaTeX documents...).

best,
Jeroen

This would seem to be the core of the problem. NSA is using 'fedora core 2' as the base for their SE linux and as such there are a components that come with fedora. It is also worth noting that the 2.6.X kernel is also designed to suport SE linux.

The problem is dew to updateing an existing Redhat /Fedora version, when updating there seems to be issues with linking and coping all the source.

It would seem best not to update from an older version to 'fedora core 2', but to reinstall from scrach. This seem to solve this issue an a few others.
