Regarding "status: unconfirmed" I have the same problem, on SUSE 9.1 Kmail 1.7 KDE 3.3
This problem makes address selection completely unusable :-(
Same problem here: KDE 3.3.0, kmail 1.7 Additionally, if I: 1) create a new email message 2) click Tools --> Address Book 3) drag a name from the address book to the "To" field I get something like this: To: /tmp/kde-nate/kaddressbook6w5wjz//Scott_Peterman.vcf instead of the "Contact Name" <contact@email.com> that I expect. In short, kmail/address book are completely broken on my box.

I was having this problem with KDE 3.3.1, KMail 1.7. Editing ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc and removing the key "Recent Addresses". The old one had lots of double-escaped commas (\\,), maybe that was causing the ruckus. I could not reproduce the bug with manual tinkering afterwards. Please try KMail 1.8. The address selection has changed dramatically and probably fixed this bug as well. Let me know, so I can close this bug. Thanks for your patience.
