Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE 3.2.1, Gentoo) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 20040108 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.2-r6, propolice-3.3-7) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.3-gentoo-r1 This is the only time I've seen this, but figured it was worth bringing to your attention. Look at this image. On my computer it shows a big black block for the image in most of the frames. The image is displayed properly when viewed from Mozilla or Internet Explorer.
I can confirm with SuSE 8.2 KDE 3.2.1 RPMs.
With KDE 3.2.0-0.1 on RedHat 9 I see a white image only for a moment and then it turns black and the animation is displayed. With Mozilla 1.6 everything looks fine.
Created attachment 7624 [details] I'm attaching this image in case the original server goes down, and it's not too large.
This bug is still valid on 3.4 beta2
"animated gif no longer animates at all, if you save the file and then open it in iceweasel it works fine." svn trunk r793709. (Quoting from bug-day wiki).
Confirmed, on trunk animated GIFs aren't animated.
Can anyone still reproduce this? The attached test case and other animated GIFs work fine for me in SVN trunk rev. 830093. 3.5.9 still animates them incorrectly.
*** Bug 144062 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
My bug was marked as a duplicate of this bug so I was moved here by Frank (comments #7 and #8) I attached a buggy animated gif in Bug 144062 (please see attachment) which can possibly be used as an additional testcase for this bug if it is the same bug. Additionally in Bug 144062, Comment #3, Rui G. indicates that bug 144062 is fixed in trunk but still exists in 3.5.9 (confirmed in Mandriva 2008.1), so I'm hoping to see a fix in the next KDE release higher than 3.5.9
Jose, indeed I said it worked in trunk, and it actually did in Arch through the manual trunk compiling method, but in Opensuse 11.0 with Konqueror 4.00.85 the gifs in bug 144062 are not animated and neither is this one. And according to George, the bug was already known before my comment on that bug, so I have to assume it works under some circumstances. If I ever find out why it worked in Arch, I'll post here again.
Ok, so I confirmed that indeed it works in kde 4.1, the other time that I thought it didn't work was because of my own ignorance. Konqueror4 displays .gifs correctly as long as you set the default to khtmlimage part or by changing in View -> View Mode. Gwenview part however doesn't show the .gifs animated, so it's a different bug/component.
Message from the Bugsquad and Konqueror teams: This bug is closed as outdated, as we do not have the manpower to maintain the KDE3 version anymore. If you still can reproduce this issue with Konqueror 4.8.4 or later, please open a new report. Thank you for your understanding.
Problem still exists with KDE 4.8.2, Mageia 2 released just this month.
Thanks for your feedback.
This is a bug in the gwenview image viewer part. When viewing this image with the embeddable image viewer part, it works.

Testing with a recent version of Gwenview, all GIFs attached to this bug and to the duplicates work just fine. I guess this has been fixed at some point in the past, possibly in Qt.
