Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux Hi Developers and Kde users, I am listing here all the websites with hindi(Devanagari script) fonts and which are rendered incorrectly. I am also attaching the sample webpage for all websites. I also urge all indian KDE, specially konqueror fans to include all those sites as comments. http://www.google.co.in/hi http://www.hindi.iitk.ac.in/ Many of them I would include as comments also. How should it look like would also be attached as png image(IE/Mozilla example).
Created attachment 5085 [details] http://www.hindi.iitk.ac.in corrently rendered in mozilla
Created attachment 5087 [details] www.hindi.iitk.ac.in incorrectly rendered in konqueror(see lower part)
Created attachment 5088 [details] google in hindi is not rendered at all almost
Created attachment 5089 [details] http://www.hindinest.com konqueror rendering There are minor glitches in http://www.hindinest.com rendering in konqueror. There are boxes at many places.
Created attachment 5104 [details] http://www2.amarujala.com http://www.amarujala.com is not rendered at all almost.
I confirm the post that all the above are not visible using Konqueror (even with UTF-8 or UTF-16 encoding enabled). I have also set the font to 'raghu' a free (open) unicode devanagari (hindi) font. and still it won't display hindi in konqueor. Download Raghu (free open source font): http://rohini.ncst.ernet.in/indix/download/font/raghu.ttf
same problems exist in HEAD
First make sure you're using at least Qt 3.2.0-b1 when full Indic script support was added. http://www.trolltech.com/developer/changes/changes-3.2.0-b1.html http://www.hindinest.com This looks like it's been Romanized or something. http://www.amarujala.com/today/default.asp# I could not figure out what encoding this is supposed to be and I couldn't get it rendered correctly, not even in Mozilla. google: Have Konqi send Mozilla or Internet Explorer identification to Google to get the site in UTF-8... for some reason (bug with Google?) Google otherwise sends the page in ISO8859-1, which has nothing to do with Devanagari. Installing the font from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=11495 allows me to see the UTF-8 sites correctly in Konqueror, but for some reason Mozilla could already do it beforer.. still trying to figure out why..
There are many Hindi(Devanagari) sites which are not unicode, but are rendered in other encodings. Only latin glyphs in specific font are replaced by devanagari glyphs. So you will have to work out, afterall why those fonts are not correctly rendered with those glyphs as expected(IE does a good job). Example-- www.webdunia.com www.jagran.com www.hindinest.com Have you seen the pic of www.amarujala.com which is attached? At least that much is correct. And yes, I have full-blown KDE now with kde-3.2.1 with qt-3.3. I usually check these things. Complex text layout support is there in qt. About google.co.in, you are correct. I am startled to see this. At least now, there is temporary solution. And yes, www.google.co.in/mr (marathi) is correctly rendered with devanagari. I don't know why hindi is neglected by them? I am lodging the complain.
Some more sites:----- http://www.prabhasakshi.com/ http://www.webdunia.com/ http://www.jagran.com It seems that if a website it using dynamic fonts, then it is not rendered correctly even if we install that dynamic font in our system. This is a bug of khtml, it seems, because other browsers like mozilla, ephiphany, opera is rendering them correctly.
Using KDE 3.2.3 and QT 3.3.2, in Slackwar 9.1(current). Google hindi is not visible. But Mozilla-Firefox 0.8 renders the page without any problem. I have Hindi KDE environment so there is no problem with font. Perhaps KDE is unable to handle Hindi using UTF-8. To save hindi text i have to use "iso-10646-ucs-2" so that I can open the text file and find hindi text and no garbage, still open as using the encoding "iso-10646-ucs-2". Strange. UTF-8 an UTF-16 are not compatible in KDE :(
change the browser identification to IE6.0, it will show that. Although I have right now 3.2.1 only, but Absolutely no problem. Hi, Google search also not working with Devanagari (Debian unstable with latest KDE). Google not correct in Hindi. However no problem to see http://hi.wikipedia.org and http://hi.wiktionary.org Thanks, Yann
http://www.hindi.iitk.ac.in/ has no text, only pictures. http://www.hindinest.com/ looks fine after installing ttf-devanagari-fonts more or less mess on other sites mentioned on this bug report.
Message from the Bugsquad and Konqueror teams: This bug is closed as outdated, as we do not have the manpower to maintain the KDE3 version anymore. If you still can reproduce this issue with Konqueror 4.8.4 or later, please open a new report. Thank you for your understanding.
