Description gambas 2003-12-30 21:43:36 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc 3.3.1 Mandrake Linux 9.2 3.3.1-2mdk
OS: Linux

Sometimes, when I copy a directory containing thousand files to another place, you get an copy error message on some files. Note that the copy work without any problem when I use "cp" in a terminal.

Sometimes, when I want to delete a directory containing many files (it is an uncompressed archive of a big project, ~ 4000 files), konqueror tells me it cannto delete one of the sub-directories. If I retry immediately the delete operation, everything works!

The last bug happens frequently, but I can't reproduce it as I want.

I use a ReiserFS 3.6 file system.

I didn't have the problem since Mandrake 10 and KDE 3.2
Comment 2 Tommi Tervo 2004-05-11 21:17:06 UTC
Works for reporter.
Comment 3 gambas 2005-08-11 16:28:42 UTC
Same problem with KDE 3.4.2, but I can be a little more precise :-)

What I try to delete (definitely) is a directory containing the sources of gambas (for example, the last release). This directory contains many directories and files, and sometimes (rarely) the delete fails with a simple error message "cannot delete the 'help' directory". This directory is a sub-directory of the package containing thousands of HTML help files, and delete always stops there. If I retry the deletion operation, everything goes fine.

gambas, does the problem still exist with KDE 3.5?
Comment 5 gambas 2006-08-29 14:28:48 UTC
I don't use KDE 3.5 yet, so I can't tell.
Comment 6 Stefan Monov 2006-08-30 17:34:13 UTC
I reproduced it with KDE 3.5.4 on SUSE Linux 10.1.
Comment 7 gambas 2006-08-30 17:38:44 UTC
I don't know if it can help, but I find strange that there are no explanation in the error message. Usually, when a IO job fails, I always get the cause in the error message. There, I get nothing.
Comment 8 Daniel Moyne 2006-10-01 11:25:39 UTC
I have the same bug on Ubuntu with Konqueror 3.5.4 ; a subdirectory cannot be deleted for unexplained reasons (proprietary rights correct) ; when trying directly to delete the subdirectory it works !

Comment 9 gambas 2007-06-03 11:01:56 UTC
I reproduced this bug with KDE 3.5.7 on Mandriva 2007 Spring.
Comment 10 David Faure 2008-04-03 19:10:19 UTC
I just got the same problem when deleting a large directory on an NTFS partition (using fuseblk on kubuntu) with rm -rf.
A few files were not deleted, and rm showed:
rm: can't remove `/mnt/windows/OldLinuxBackup/build/fgdet.o': Operation not supported

Obviously in my case it wasn't a kde issue, but a filesystem issue. I don't know if all other bugs reported here were also due to filesystem issues or not, but it's a possibility... Of course we should still try to retrieve the error message in this case... I wonder if errno is ENOTSUP. More testing required.
