Under which protocol?

I know this works fine for IRC.

Comment 2 Degand Nicolas 2003-12-22 18:13:59 UTC
AIM + ICQ + MSN
Comment 3 Olivier Goffart 2003-12-22 19:00:09 UTC
This works fine here. Aree you sure you have correctly configured knotify?
remember that theses two notifications are differents
Comment 4 Casey Allen Shobe 2003-12-22 23:49:22 UTC
What Olivier means (because 99% of users don't know what knotify is, and shouldn't have to care) is the settings which can be found in Settings --> Configure Kopete --> Behavior --> Configure Sounds & Events. This dialog is nearly useless without clicking the "More Options" button, so do that too.

At the top you will see the following two events in the list:
* User goes online
* User changed his online status

Configure to be notified however you like on either event. Let us know if this fixes the problem.
Comment 5 Degand Nicolas 2003-12-27 21:26:25 UTC
I confirm my problem. It works with "User changed his online status", but not if I use "User goes online". No difference between a popup-based notification and a sound-based notification.
Comment 6 Ernst Persson 2004-02-08 17:40:31 UTC
Same here, with Kopete 0.8.0 with KDE 3.2.0.
Comment 7 Martijn Klingens 2004-02-14 21:31:12 UTC
I have the same problem here, but after adding debug info I realized that that was because I marked myself as invisible on MSN. Invisible is treated as 'Away' and thus doesn't show the notifications.

Could that be the case for you guys too?

Martijn
Comment 8 Degand Nicolas 2004-02-14 22:28:25 UTC
Not for me. I'll try to do extensive tests soon after my exams next week.
Comment 9 jstuart 2004-02-17 05:51:01 UTC
Yes, make sure that you are NOT marked away. If you are, it won't show the notification.
Comment 10 Ernst Persson 2004-02-17 16:07:04 UTC
I'm definitively not away.
But Iv'e found this: If I enable all notifications I get Online-notifications too. But that's too much, I just want the Online-.

What do you mean by "If I enable all notifications"?
Comment 12 Olivier Goffart 2004-03-12 22:07:20 UTC
I realy can't reproduce this.
Comment 13 Olivier Goffart 2004-03-12 22:07:58 UTC
sorry, i leant WORKSFORME
Comment 14 Degand Nicolas 2004-03-26 21:01:43 UTC
I re-installed from scratch my computer. I still have the issue. I am ready to make further tests to identify its cause.
Comment 15 Matt Rogers 2004-03-27 02:17:19 UTC
More tests would be good. Preferably with a kopete that has debug symbols in
it (you have to pass --enable-debug=full to the configure script)

Comment 16 Degand Nicolas 2004-04-04 19:51:21 UTC
Made tests with debug enabled. Nothing of interest at first sight.

A much better test would be to just enable the popup dialog in KNotify. If the popup shows up then a) you know it's not a Kopete problem, b) you know it's not a KDE problem, c) It's likely an arts / soundcard problem, or the fact that the soundcard is in use and arts isn't set up to be the only thing using it.

Just made the test. The popup does not show up.

I reopen the bug. As it is 100 % reproducible on my box I am available to make any further tests.
Comment 20 Matt Rogers 2004-04-29 04:06:07 UTC
ahhh, I missed this one. I fixed this in CVS about a week or two ago. Please feel free to reopen if you can reproduce with Kopete from CVS HEAD.
