Description eric 2003-12-01 15:15:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Today I came across a site ( www.centric.nl ) that I can't visit
with Konqueror, because it thinks my browser is not capable enough.
It doesn't work, whatever option I choose from Tools -
Change Browser Identification.

With Galeon I _can_ visit the site, but the menu's don't work ...
So Galeon probably coincidentally sends a User-Agent string that
the site actually accepts ! It's :

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Now I would like to know if there's a way that I can
add my own User-Agent string, without recompilation ?
If not, can you add functionality to add your own
browsers to the predefined list ?

Best regards,

Eric

There's no GUI to change the UserAgent to a custom value manually. But you can do that by editing your $KDEHOME/share/config/kio_httprc.

By the way, that's a site bug, not a Konqueror one. I'm changing to wishlist.

(no uachangerplugin component; maybe adawit should be added to the Cc?)

Thanks, that helps ! I know it's a site bug, I told the webmaster, but the
reality is that many of them don't care, darn I hate the MS monopoly !

You can create custom user-agent string file manually and place them under $KDEHOME/share/services/useragentstrings/. See

I was about to create a bug about this but searched first and found this one. I know people keep saying to edit a file but seriously why can't we have this in the GUI. This functionality should exist. Put this in the GUI! If not for 3.x then KDE 4

+1 for this request, and the built-in browser list/categorization should also be updated.

Would this be a plugin? And would it be a JJ?

It would be part of the uachanger plugin. Possibly a JJ, yes.
