Description klee 2003-11-11 01:51:38 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.1.93 (CVS >= 20031028), yes)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-1up.1

1. Browse to a site that sets a favicon
2. Open the "About Konqueror" or "About KDE" dialogs.
3. Confusingly, the window icon (e.g., the title bar icon in the Keramik window decoration) for the dialog will be the website's favicon, not a KDE or Konqueror icon.

I think this is a minor usability bug, because it looks like this dialog box has something to do with the web site when in fact it has only to do with the app.

This behavior is also inconsistent with other dialogs or auxiliary windows, e.g. the configuration dialogs and the bookmarks editor.

Still valid in 3.5.0 ... is this really this hard to fix?
Comment 2 mario tuling 2008-05-04 19:29:29 UTC
i confirm it for 4.0.3

This is actually a tricky issue. Qt automatically takes the icon from the parent window. Yes it's a bug for about dialog, since it's unrelated to the current website, but OTOH for a dialog like Ctrl+F (find), it's quite nice that it shows the website favicon so that we can mentally associate the dialog with the parent window, right?
So, I just reported a bug and a patch to Trolltech to make QWidget::windowIcon behave more like its documentation says, but if they accept it then for dialogs that -are- related to the window, we might want to set the window icon manually...
