Description Bart Coppens 2003-11-10 21:34:00 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.93)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

It is already possible to import bookmarks from almost every webbrowser, even from Konqueror from KDE2, but not from a recent version of Konqueror. To import my bookmarks from my 'real' user in my testing account, I had to open it, export it as a supported format (I used Mozilla's format) and then reimport them as Mozilla bookmarks.
This is really ugly in a browser enviroment as polished als Konqueror.

the kde2 import does imports of the latest version.
the format has remained the same since kde2.

you can drag and drop bookmarks in from another
keditbookmarks. and you can open the bookmarks
in another one therefore.

i'll for 3.2 change the string to say "kde2/3"

thanks
Alex

Thank you for your reply, and that stringchange would be very nice. The problem is, it doesn't work. Let me illustrate and explain:
So I tried importing my previous bookmarks with the importer labeled KDE2. After answering the question what to do with the imported file (I asked to just replace the current bookmarks with the imported ones), the current bookmarks dissapeared, and I waited for my old bookmarks to appear. And I kept waiting, but there didn't come anything, the list remained empty.

Then I set up a little test. I cleared my bookmarks and added just one bookmark manually in the editor. I saved the file as 'test.xml', and quit the editor without saving the changes to my original bookmarks. I opened the editor again, with my normal bookmarks loaded. I clicked Import KDE2 bookmarks, and let him again replace the current bookmarks with the single bookmark in the file. Again the list disappeared, but the bookmark stored in the testfile didn't appear. I guess this is a bug?

To make sure it wasn't the bookmarks file that was faulty, I could open the files (as wel as my old bookmarks as the test.xml file) completely if I just File|Opened them. Dragging and dropping them worked just fine (although I would have liked that I could just drag&drop the whole tree with just selecting&dragging the top 'Bookmarks' element)

aah. found the bug. quite a difficult one due
to a minor file format change a while back.

thanks *very* much for the report
