Version: 4.0 (using KDE 3.1.3) Installed from: Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (Mandrake Linux 9.2 3.3.1-0.7mdk) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-6mdk Go to http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/download_ati.html and right click on the link for any "README" file. Try to open it in a tab (new or background). The plain text file is never openned in an embedded viewer. It always asks if it would save it or open it with some other app (kate/kwrite) but never opens it in an embedded viewer. In konqueror settings-> file asssociations, the text->plain type includes "*.txt" and the Embedding tab also has the "Embedded Advanced Text Editor" in services preference order. The application preference order includes kwrite and kate. Why is embedded text viewing then not working ? I know that in kde-3.1.1 this used to work fine.
Your Konqueror configuration for File Associations lists the text/ group preference to open in the Embedded Viewer or the external viewer?
For some reason README files are given a special text/english mimetype. So it's probably using the settings for that. However, the presence of that type is a bit beyond me.

The file in question was a *.txt file which is under text->plain. If you are referring to the settings in the "Left Click Action" (under embedding tab), I have tried both settings: - Use settings for 'text' group - Show file in embedded viewer but it always opens in an external viewer. As I said, this used to work sometime back but stopped working at some point without any change of file association settings. Also, note that the settings under "Left Click Action" should not apply since I did a _right_ click to open the file.

Note that the actual file name is "readme.txt" even though the name of the html link is "README". But that should not matter since, in my case, the Embedding settings and General Application preference order for text/plain and text/english are identical.
The URL seems to be now http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/download_ati.php I see no README link, but links to e.g. http://www.schneider-digital.de/download/ati/gl1xp_readme.txt which work fine here (they open a new konqueror window or tab, and show the text in there). Note that the *.txt extension doesn't matter at all for files coming from HTTP: what matters is the Content-Type sent by the webserver. On that page all links to text files are sent as text/plain, which is correct. I assume the bug is fixed, please reopen if that's not the case (with KDE-3.3)
