Description Andreas 2003-06-30 13:59:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs

Like the kde menus, I'd like to see an option to make inactive windows translucent (gradially transparent), I think win-xp also has a feature like this.
Comment 1 Lubos Lunak 2003-06-30 14:12:18 UTC
Maybe the day XFree gets support for this.

Comment 2 Andreas 2004-02-03 12:00:47 UTC
seems like XFree team is no more...
thinking the windows don't move when they're inactive, wouldn't it be possible to add translucency like you did with menus? or would there be problems turning on/off translucency when you select a window?
Comment 3 JJ Luza 2004-05-31 13:24:18 UTC
I would like to have translucency in title bar (like enlightenment and fvwm do) and for windows while I'm moving them (like many wm do) too.
I think it could make kde more nice than it is already.
Comment 4 Andreas 2004-09-09 17:12:19 UTC
Seems like X11R6.8.0 now has support for this...

This could be really usefull if you have a windows with "always on top" (an interesting log, some reference code, a music player, etc) and click on a windows behind. You can work in the windows behind the first without losing sight on it.

I especially appreciate the idea of making windows you are moving transparent. with Xorg this should be no issue performance wise. As always there *should* be an option to turn the feature off of course ;)

I'm too dumb to make the above patch work. could it be included in kde 3.4?
Comment 9 jos poortvliet 2004-11-30 18:19:15 UTC
inactive windows should/could be transparant, too... whould make finding a window easier, I guess.
Comment 10 Jakob Petsovits 2004-12-01 00:17:59 UTC
I guess this could also be handy when switching windows with Alt-Tab. When doing so, the currently selected window (the one which is supposed to come to front) should be solid while the others are transparent.

That would make switching to the right window a little bit easier because it gives direct feedback to the user.

I think that last commits in KWin by thomas12777 (see http://www.kde-look.org/news/index.php?id=150) fix this whish.
It's not yet available for all X servers / video boards, but KDE's translucency support is at its best!

I vote for closing this.
