Description scott.jacobsen 2003-06-12 20:24:08 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-113)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-3

When konq is set to the JavaScript "Ask" policy the following URL http://www.nytimes.com/2003/06/12/technology/circuits/12play.html

causes konq to crash when selecting "No" on the query. If I select "Yes", allowing the pop up then it does not crash. No crash window or stack track window comes up. The Konq window simply vanishes. Happens every time at this URL.
Comment 1 Ralf Holzer 2003-06-12 22:50:04 UTC
I logged in using my nytimes.com account and clicked "no". Works fine with cvs head.
Comment 2 Andreas Amann 2003-08-08 21:15:47 UTC
Same happens to me. Here my backtrace, hope this one helps

Best way to reproduce this bug is to visit http://www.netzzeitung.de/
and click on one of the articles of nytimes. There seems to be a timeout for
the popups, they do not appear, if they were allowed once in the last 15min or
so (IP check?). BTW bug 55567 and 44622 seem to be duplicates of this one.

I don't have debugs symbols in my qt-copy build, but maybe it helps. Today cvs head:

Can't reproduce.
Comment 7 richard 2004-01-22 19:03:02 UTC
I just reproduced it with 3.2 RC1. Any direct URLs won't help, because it seems by the time someone gets around to testing it it's already been moved in to the archives, but the link that Andreas posted will get you a fresh story. I'm already logged in, so I don't see a signup/login page when I go to an NYTimes story; that may be required to reproduce the crash.
Comment 8 Waldo Bastian 2004-01-29 17:29:38 UTC
I do get the popup, but I don't get the crash.

Comment 10 Andreas Amann 2004-02-09 15:47:24 UTC
reproduced once more with the released kde-3.2, compiled with konstruct (also qt) from sources.

I obtained the following backtrace:

It also crashes here, answering "Yes" or "No". Check http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/24/technology/24soft.html for example.
Comment 12 gallir 2004-03-25 12:19:31 UTC
The same here, but crashes selecting both, "Yes" or "Not. Check for example:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/24/technology/24soft.html

It's Debian-KDE 3.2.1

Just a note (I originally reported this bug) that I still get frequent crashes if I use the javascript "ask" policy at nytimes.com on konq 3.3. I'm using gentoo packages. (I don't go to many other sites with javascript, so I can't say if it is just nytimes). Today I got it on the home page of nytimes.com.

Is there a current way of testing this?

I'm on 4.0 r793981, but I can't get any popup. The German site seems to no longer refer to the NYT.

Closing this now. Please reopen if you can still reproduce this problem.
