Description Ole Petter Hjelmstad 2003-05-19 19:03:38 UTC
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 3.0.5)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-13.8

I previously used the GNOME environment. When I compiled my LaTeX files, I could view the .dvi file in kdvi without any problems. Recently, I changed to the KDE environment. When I now try to open my .dvi files using kdvi in the KDE environment, my graphics (all .eps) do not appear. When I again try to open a session in GNOME, the "frame" (where you can kill, minimize, maximize...) around the kdvi now appears differently, and it does not display the .eps graphics either.

To reproduce the problem: I started using GNOME without having tried the KDE first. I started using kdvi in GNOME, without problems. Then change to KDE, and dvi doesnt show the graphics in the same .dvi files.

Hope this problem is simple to solve!

regards,

Ole

I have kdvi 1.0, and Redhat 9, and my eps files don't appear either :(

I am sorry that I didn't react to your bug report. I will now try to fix the issue. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the issue on my machine. If you are able to update to a recent version of KDE, could you please let me know if the issue still persists with the latest version of KDE. Also, what shell do you use?

Regards,

Stefan Kebekus.

I have kde3.1 - unfortunately I don't have root access to my machine. I
use bash.

Thanks for your mail. Could you try to run the command "gs --help" from the
command line and send me the output of that? Also, could you run kdvi on a
DVI file with PS-graphics from the command line, and check if there are some
debug messages shown? -- Thanks.

Best,

Stefan Kebekus.

Subject: Re: cannot view graphics in the kdvi viewer

NOW THAT WAS A QUICK ANSWER -- Thank you. I understand the problem now (you
version of ghostscript does not have the device "png256" compiled in), and I
will try to find a solution.

Thanks,

Stefan Kebekus.
