Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.1a) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 3.2 OS: Linux Hello, I managed to finally get useful stuff in /proc/acpi and so I began testing the klaptopdaemon. I noticed that every time I start my laptop with the battery removed or I remove the battery (being on AC, of course) while the laptop is running, the laptop daemon does not change its status from charging (or fully charged) to no battery. My /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1 has the following files: alarm; info; state. All three of them have the same contents while the battery is removed: present: no So, when is the Control Panel -> Power -> Battery -> No battery icon supposed to be displayed? Besides this state, the two other states (charging and fully charged) work OK so far. Hope this helps Virgil
Just to make stuff clearer, It's all about the icons klaptopdaemon displays in the tray. The icons for charging, charged and remaining battery (when on battery) work OK and are displayed when they should. The only icon I've never seen so far is the 'no battery' one. I'm assuming that this icon should be displayed when the laptop is on A.C. and there is no battery in the bay. A different icon gets displayed under these conditions: the 'charging empty battery' with the associate 'No charging' text. Virgil
I believe this problem is fixed in 3.2 (ie already fixed in HEAD) - basicly the code used to cache whether or not a battery was actually there and never refilled the cache - now it does it periodically (but not every few seconds which is a killer on some ACPI implementations) - I'm going to leave this bug open untill I verify that I've really fixed it - Paul
Thank you, Paul :-)
Looks like this hasn't been fixed in 3.2. I see the same effect that Virgil describes on my IBM ThinkPad after removing the battery (using APM instead of ACPI, but I guess this doesn't matter in that case). The "Current Battery Status" field in the "Configure - Laptop Battery" window says "-1% Present" which obviously wrong, while the system tray icons's tooltip ("Plugged in - no battery") and popup window ("No Battery, Not Charging") are correct.
Is this bug still present in a recent version of KDE, such as 3.5.8 or 4.0.1?
I have personally contacted the KLaptopDaemon author/assigned and he confirmed that the tool is deprecated in KDE SC 4 (replaced by PowerDevil) and that there are no current efforts to support/maintain the KDE SC 3 version. Because of this, I will close the reports as UNMAINTAINED. Regards
