Description Bernhard Vornefeld 2003-04-10 14:50:08 UTC
Version: 1.5.1 (using KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB-athlon

It would be nice to browse, read, drag & drop, search local mails using Konqueror
Konqis search tools should be enhanced so that mail content also can be found.

Background:
- switching from an program-centred approach to a problem- and data-centered approach
- Konqueror as unified data access tool
- reducing learning expense and "TCO"
- novice users have difficulties to associate applications (uses) with special programs

Why does KMail not have a database backend?
1. KMail was created as a simple mail client. No simple mail client I
know of has a database backend.
2. Most people don't want to setup a database just to be able to use an
email program.

What can be done to change this?
Nothing much. There is currently no KMail developer who has the time to
create a database backend for KMail. Of course we welcome anyone who
wants to work on this.

And BTW, for accessing local mail folders in Konqueror a rdbms framework
is completely unnecessary. Instead KMail could be split into a daemon
and a GUI frontend. The local folders could then be accessed by
Konqueror through the daemon.

This is probably getting more interesting with the migration to akonadi

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
