Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux I'm using kde 3.1 for 3 days now. changing virtual desktops (with keybord shortcuts or mouse on kpager) eats (nearly) all cpu for 2 or 3 seconds (at least much more than it should do and much more as I knew it from the version before (kde 3.0.5)). this also happens if kpager (or the pager in the panel) is not running, but it eats even more cpu if I choose configure kpager/ type of window / icon or pixmap
Cannot confirm this behaviour. Desktop switching is fast here without noticeable CPU increase. (3.1 branch, CVS of Feb 6th)
I have keyboard shortcut to switch one dektop up/down/left/right. and I have 10 virtual desktops. if I then hoose configure kpager/ type of window / icon or pixmap and cycle fast through the desktops, then cpu usage is 100%.
I've tried it again at work (kde3.0.4) and (different from what I said above) there is the same problem.
Don't run KPager, remove the pager on Kicker, turn off desktop background (set it the same for all desktops, make it single-colored and without a wallpaper), don't run any applications. Can you still see the problem?
I tried it, closed every application (apart from procmeter3 to watch cpu usage), kpager and pager, turned off desktop background ... its much better then, but still cpu usage goes up to 50% if I cycle very fast through the desktops (only to test it)
Could you run 'top' in xterm to see which application is causing the CPU usage?
the CPU goes up for kpager and X
You said in comment #5 you closed kpager. Anyway, it's a kpager problem then.
kpager 2%, X 20% - I can't say, that I see a bug here.
Does this bug still exist in a recent version of KDE?
kpager has been unmaintained for many years. If the issue in this report still exists in or applies to the pager plasamoid in KDE SC 4.11, please reassign this report or create a new report against the widget-pager component under product plasma.
