Version: 1.90 (using KDE 3.1.0) Installed from: (testing/unstable) Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2 20030131 (Debian prerelease) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20 Currently clicking on the panel icon for KMix just shows the master volume. It would be good if you could double click to get the full "Show Window" window to come up. Thanks, David
Sounds sensible. I found myself wondering why double-click fails to work. Chris
This wish will be merged with all the other "panel icon mouse button" wishes later. But there has to be a overall concept for this first - unfortunately this will need time. Chris

Fixed. The new versdion will ship with KDE3.2. Left button now shows/hides main window. Middle button shows volume control. Chris
> Left button now shows/hides main window. > Middle button shows volume control. sorry to say that, but IMHO things just got worse. i have never clicked on a systray icon with the middle button - the chance that i would find the master-volume-control "shortcut" is slighty above zero.. of course that is just me.... i would expect: single click shows the master-volume (as it is now (kde-3.1.2)) and double-click shows/hides the ain window. i know that this is different from how other apps (eg. kopete) use the systray icon, but i think for the most part one only needs the master-volume-control anyway... hhm, perhaps it would help, if the master-volume-control would also appear if one used the mousewheel to change the volume... what do you think?
changing the behavior of left click is probably not a good idea. It's definitely not the expected behavior, and will probably cause a few bug reports in KDE 3.2 While I appreciate the ability to get a window in a single click, this bug is (was) about bringing up the window in a double click and not modifying the left click.
Double clicking always has been deprecated within KDE, and the HIG rules for systray entries exist for a very long time as well (see http://developer.kde.org/documentation/standards/kde/style/basics/systray.html) without KMix complying with it, now it finally does. If one want to have quick direct access to changing volumes with left mouse button or the mousewheel there's still the KMix applet for Kicker which offers just that, so please use that instead the systray entry.
This is what the HIG rules say; === Single clicking on the systray icon will show/hide THE MAIN INTERFACE OF THE APPLICATION. (my caps) This can mean that an extra window will open or that a menu opens where the normal functionality of the application is present. Right clicking will show a popup menu with at least a quit and a configure option. === One could argue that for a volume control, the main interface would be just to show the master volume, since that is what the majority of users would expect, and that the full mixer window would be the configure option.
Forgot to type the following in my comment above: I think that the current behavior of the volume slider is based on a too literal interpretation of the systray HIG guidelines.
I totaly agree with the fact that a single click should trigger the master slider. When I installed beta2, I thought this was a bug and I found out it was a feature. I'm a technical user, not a novice. Please use the left button for novices and the middle click and right click for the powerusers. So my advice (please change it before 3.2 final, if that's possible): left: main volume slider middle: mainwindow right: context cheers, Jeroen
Can this be reopened?
