Created attachment 906 [details] kalarm configuration
Please confirm that you tried to activate alarms by right clicking on the system tray icon and then selecting the Alarms Enabled context menu item. Also, was kalarmd running either before or after you tried to do this? Your attachment shows that KAlarm runs only on demand. In this mode, the system tray icon is not displayed unless either: 1) KAlarm is activated at login and the "Autostart system tray icon at login" option is selected (which your attachment shows to be the case), or 2) KAlarm is activated manually and the menu option "View -> Show in system tray" is selected. So, after restarting KAlarm manually, the system tray icon would not be expected to appear automatically. Please note that the console error messages don't matter, and are not relevant to what you report.

Fixed for KDE 3.1.1. It was already fixed in HEAD (although I didn't realise it!) Edits to kalarmd/alarmdaemon*
