Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources Create a URL by dragging it from konq to the desktop, press 'link' in the popup that appears. Select, Press F2, rename. No change. Restart kdesktop, and it is shown. Maybe its time to write a couple of unit-tests. This is, ehh, not the first time this is reported. Related; copy the desktop file to another desktop (my laptop in this case) the name on the icon is that of the URL, not of the file. Conclusion; rename does not enter the desktop file and alter the 'name[en_US] field. (that field was the only 'name' field in the file...)
Yes you are absolutely right, the name displayed is that one of the name field in the file not the filename and that name is not changed when rename so the effect is that no rename happened the problem there is that some desktop files (not URLs but more general) are translated to many languages so changing his name is not so obvious. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 49212 ***
Problem is related to 49212 but not the same
