Description Draco Dragon 2002-11-12 14:55:43 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.0.4)
Installed from:    RedHat RPMs
Compiler:          G++ 3.2
OS:          Linux

Hi,
I want to be able to do several commands to all files, like pack them into an archive, burn them to cd (no matter what files I selected), and wanna be able to open any file with GVim.
So I added these commands to the Mime-Type "All/All". On the first sight it works great, but there are 2 major problems with that:

1. If I click on an unknown file (or even on Directories I do not have x/r permissions!!!) Konqueror opens that file/Directory with one of my Apps.
I think the app in All/All should never be started directly, it should only be possible to start it with the Open with... Menu. So, if anybody clicks on an unknown file, there always should appear the "Open with" Dialogue.

2. The next problem is the Preference order... If I add several Apps to All/All I can't change the priority of the Apps! I selected gvim as first (I clicked 'move up' until it was first) because it's not such a big problem when it starts with unknown files (the "burn.it.to.cd" command would be a big problem!) But Konqueror doesn't start the App listed first!
In my case, it always starts my zipFolder Perlscript.
The order in which I add the apps doesn't matter. Neither does Konqueror pick the first in alphabetical order.

I hope you agree with my opinions...
Thanks!

all/all is gone in kde4. The base mimetype for all files application/octet-stream replaces it.
If you want actions that are not used as default applications, use servicemenus (see the techbase howto).
The filetypes editor has been largely reworked and should handle inheritance ok now -- but if you use servicemenus then that's unrelated to the filetypes editor anyway.
