(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kword Version: 1.1 (using KDE 2.2.1 ) Severity: normal Installed from: SuSE RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified The following expression is accepted by the spellchecker : 'Allenkindern stehtdas Wasser biszumhals' corect would be 'Allen Kindern steht das Wasser bis zum Hals'. It seems as long as I write in lowercase i can connect any words. Best Regards Marcel (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
Have you set the spell checking so that it disallows run-together words? Of course in German, it is quite a problem to choose for or against it, as on one side one would prefer to support normally composed words but on other side does not want a behavior as described (but that is how ispell and friends work.) Have a nice day!
I can reproduce it. Perhaps the "consider run-together word as error" should be the default setting. (It has sense in only a few languages anyway.)
Another problem concerning the spellchecking is that german umlauts (äöüß etc) are regarded as delimiters. For example the word 'grübeln' will result in the spellchecker trying to correct 'gr' and 'beln' which is certainly not the desired behaviour.

That is probably the case, if the encoding is set wrongly. If you have ISpell it has to be ISO-8859-1 (Latin1) for old German. For new German, as gar as know it could be UTF-8 too. Have a nice day!
Apart from perhaps the problem noted in comment 3, this is an ispell problem, isn't it?
Are these problems still present in a recent version of KDE, such as 3.5.8?
Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion. The "KOffice" application suite is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed. We recommend to switch to the "Calligra" application suite, which has replacements for all unmaintained KOffice applications: - KWord was replaced with Calligra Words - KPlato was replaced with Calligra Plan For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligra_Suite (This is an automatic message from the KDE bug triaging team)
