Description Germano Massullo 2015-07-31 20:35:12 UTC
Description of problem:
Sometimes, when you connect an USB mass storage drive you can experience the following KDE Plasma behaviours:
- the removable devices panel popup does not popup;
- you get a popup of notifications and status summary instead of removable devices summary;
- you don't get any popup, you only see the removable devices icon appearing on the panel. If you click on the little arrow that should show other icons, you instead get the removable devices summary popup that you did not get previously. I recorded a video about this point https://youtu.be/7Z4Rm-j5hx0 In at the beginning I connect to the computer an USB drive.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
5.12.0-1.fc22

Reproducible: Sometimes

This is not specific to the removable devices system tray. Generally, after a system tray icon appears or disappears, it can happen that systrem tray is confused and when I click some icon, I get a completely different popup. I will attach a screenshot of the removable devices popup appearing after I clicked the network icon; you can see how both of them have a blue bar. I even had a case this morning where the power management popup appeared somehow merged into the actual system tray, with icons and text being behind the normal system tray icons and everything looking very glitched... but I didn't catch a screenshot of that.

Needless to say that this is a fairly bad regression compared to KDE4, where I never saw any of this happen.

do you know what version of plasma-workspace do you have? (that is different from the version of frameworks)
i can reproduce it on an old installation pf Plasma 5.2 but not on the systems with master

[15:34] <notmart> now that i remember, this used to happen on an old laptop i have here that has kubuntu with stock 5.2
[15:34] <notmart> but can't get it to happen in maste

You've marked here that you're using "master" but in July.
Does it still happen?
Can you confirm your version number if you are using a released product?

Ah, possibly effectively a duplicate of 349616
which happens if you open the tray of items then plug an item

If that's the "plasma-desktop" Debian package, I have version 5.4 of that as well.

I had the issue described above without any popup being open when the new sytray icon appears.

I don't know because now I am using a newer Plasma. For your info, I think I am no longer experiencing this bug
Comment 9 Germano Massullo 2015-10-11 20:38:24 UTC
I *confirm* the problem on
plasma-desktop-5.4.1-2.fc22.1.x86_64 + plasma-workspace-5.4.1-3.fc22.x86_64
Could you please mark it as confirmed?
Comment 10 David Edmundson 2015-10-11 22:06:20 UTC
There was a commit for 5.4.3 that possibly fixes this.

Please comment if you have this after upgrading to that when it's released.
