with a dolphin window open, when you start keyboard typing, it selects a file or folder based on that filter, but it resets too quickly, so if you want to select something that starts with 're', if you don't hit e fast enough it will reset and select something starting with e instead of re. There is no visible way to change the filter reset speed in the menus.

In the meantime, the timeout has been increased from 400 ms to 1 second. It was first tried to raise it even further, but that caused other problems (like that one has to wait too long before one can start the next search operation).
