Description Aravind Gopal 2011-10-07 15:46:44 UTC
Version: 1.6.1 (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

if we added a folder in the partition(ext4/windows) not mounted during installation, to the 'places' panel(bookmarked). When we restart Linux, the contents of the folder will not be shown if we clicked it before clicking the partition. Even libreoffice cannot open a recent file in this folder or will not open the folder if set as 'my documents' folder in the options. If the partition is opened earlier through dolphin , it will work. I use separate partition for special purpose like 'backup' or 'working documents', etc.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
bookmarked folders should be opened immediately, irrespective of the location(at least folders in linux partitions)

Expected Results:
bookmarked folders should be opened immediately, irrespective of the location(at least folders in linux partitions)

Reproduced by
1. opened a ext4 formated partition which not mounted as /home or so during installation. and bookmarked a folder(say 'abc') in it (Because I had a partition with my data).
2. shut down the system and restarted.
3. opened dolphin by clicking a folder in the desktop.
4. clicked bookmarked folder('abc') with out clicking the partition.
Dolfin could not find the folder. but if done it after clicking the partition, it will work.

Thanks for the bug report! I'm pretty sure that this has been reported already, but I can't find the report right now. Unfortunately, I think that there is no good way to fix this issue.

In KDE 4.8.4 (4.8.4),
in "System setting" -> "Removeable Devices" it ia possible to enable auto
mount partitions on login. This will solve the problem.
I like KDE
Thank U

It's related to (but not 100% equal to) bug 176277.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

Unless anyone knows a good way to find out which device must be mounted in order to access a bookmarked "Place", I'm afraid we can't do much about this issue. Sorry.
Comment 7 Aravind Gopal 2013-06-27 14:19:06 UTC
bookmarked "Place", which is in the partitions that are not auto mounted in
"System setting" -> "Removeable Devices" or manual mounted before. No
warning is also issued. A folder in the mounted partition can be bookmarked
but on next boot up. if not mounted it will not open. If proper warning is
issued for bookmarking places in temporally mounted partition, to change
'removable device setting' or an option to change automount is given, its
ok. more userfriendly it become. thank you
