Description 2011-05-24 16:24:08 UTC
Version: 1.6.1
OS: Linux

Runing dolphin, in wich you have for example 2 open directories (i.e. /home/foo/tmp and /mnt/foo/other), now you open a new tab in dolphin and in this tab you open some archive (i.e. open file /home/user/file.zip), so when doube clicking in the file it preview its content and the left panel appears blanck), then you click in the return button to show the files in /home/user.
Now if you click in the first tab, it doesnt not show the 2 opened dirs (i.e. /home/foo/tmp and /mnt/foo/other) like it was showing before openinf the seconf tab, now it only shows the select dir, and IT SHOULD continue showing the 2 opened dirs.

Why dolphin closes the dirs that are not selected (but still are opened in first tab) when you open a second tab and preview some archieve?

Dolphin should continue showing all opened dirs even if they are selected.

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.36.2-desktop-2mnb
Compiler: gcc

what i ment in last paragraph, was:

Dolphin should continue showing all opened dirs even if they are NOT selected.

Of source that this only happens when you open another tab and preview some archieve file, so when previewing this file you click in the first tab, it will only show opened the last dir you selected, the other dirs you had opened now appear closed.

Thanks for the report, but I could not reproduce the issue as (at least to me)
the description is unclear:

> Runing dolphin, in wich you have for example 2 open
> directories (i.e./home/foo/tmp and /mnt/foo/other)

2 open directories where? In 2 tabs, in a split-view, as open-tree-nodes in the
details-view?

> now you open a new tab in dolphin and in
> this tab you open some archive (i.e. open file /home/user/file.zip)

Does this issue only occur when clicking on an archive or with any other
directory inside a tab? I tried with using an archive but everything worked fine here. I guess you've activated "[X] Open archives as folder"
in your Dolphin settings? You say "double-click" and "open". Please be more
specific about your settings: Did you enable "(x) Double-click to open files
and folders" in your settings? This would imply that "open" is the same as
"double-click"...

If possible please provide a minimal and easy example how to reproduce the
issue and leave away all unnecessary steps that are not required for
reproducing this issue :)

I have used a normal view (Details).

In Dolphin settings i dont see any option "[X] Open archives as folder".
And yes i have enabled the mouse option to open files/directories with a double-click.

And this happens when viewing a TAR file in dolphin.

Here the main issue is when your browsing in dolphin and you have severall directories open, lets say you have for examples these dirs open:

/home/foo/Documents
/mnt/foo/faa
/media/windows/Users

and your the last directory you used in dolphin was: /home/foo/Documents

and in that same dir you have a file foo.tar.gz and you decide to see what that archive contains so i double click the file.
So what happens after clicking the tar file is that your left panel (where dirs are listed) appears empty and your right side appears with the archive contents (some dirs and some files).

Now you decide to go back and you hit the button "Back", now you have again the panel listing directories, but now it only shows your last used directory /home/foo/Documents.

The other opened directories /mnt/foo/faa and /media/windows/Users dont appear opened anymore.

This also happens if you decide to use some protocol like fish, nftp, smb, ftp, etc, when you click the button "Back" it will only show the last used directory and its contents. If you had any other directories opened they wil no longer appear as they were before used the protocol or open some tar file.

Thanks for the update, I think I got it.

(internal note: The treestate of the "Folders Panel" is not restored when going back in history if it has been cleared in the meantime)

I'm not really sure what your getting at. If you can reproduce this issue on Dolphin 2.1/KDE SC 4.9.2, could you provide more detailed instructions for reproducing the bug?
Comment 8 Emmanuel Pescosta 2013-08-09 15:29:53 UTC
Can you reproduce it? If yes, can you please provide some feedback and instructions on how to reproduce this bug? Thanks
Comment 9 Julian Steinmann 2018-03-31 09:05:26 UTC
Looks like this cannot be reproduced anymore. Closing, please reopen if you still experience this bug with Dolphin 17.12.3.
