Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1) OS: Linux I believe I can reproduce it the following way: 1) open dolphin with a folder with some music files and place dolphin to cover the right half of the screen 2) open a music player on the left half of the screen (I use audacious) 3) drag a file into the music player 4) hover the mouse over the files in dolphin ==> the files under the dragged files are selected I run very(!) often into this problem. I am not sure if this happens only after drags (I drag&drop often). Reproducible: Always OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.34-12-desktop Compiler: gcc
there are even other side effects, as scrolling in dolphin this way only by mouse hover
Thanks for the bug report! I'm unable to reproduce (I tried Opensuse's 4.4.4 and trunk, dragging and dropping files to Amarok). Do I understand correctly that you drop the file before you move the mouse back to Dolphin, such that no mouse button is pressed during the unexpected selection?
I also cannot reproduce the bug. Please reopen the issue if you have further information like requested in comment 2. Thanks!
the mouse button is not pressed, when leaving the other program and hovering the files in dolphin. dolphin even scrolls when moving the mouse over it. I cannot reproduce it everytime. in the case, when this happens, also another problem appears: the tooltips for file-information are shown, and hovering even my fullscreen browser windows now, so I have to get dolphin back to foreground and click once to cancel the selection-process. I'll attach a screencast.

Is this still reproducible for you? The view engine, including the code that handles selections has been rewritten from scratch for KDE 4.8 and later, which makes me wonder if the bug is still valid (I am still unable to reproduce).
I did not have this problem for a long time, so I think it is fixed, thanks.
