Version: 1.3 (using 4.4.00 (KDE 4.4.0) "release 2", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop If one selects any large file( a few MBs at least) in dolphin, konqueror, both applications freeze for sometime. One can see feverish disk activity.Sometimes they freeze so bad,I had to kill them with ctrl+Alt+esc.
I have only recently had a similar problem with konqueror-4.4.92-1mdv2010.1 as part of a kde installation from here: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/latest/Mandriva/2010.1/x86_64 on Mandriva Linux release 2010.1 (Official) for x86_64 It is not consistent. There is a large, "MPEG transport stream data" file of about 32M that has caught my attention but behavior varies. The problem is that, when I right-click this file, it will often make the konqueror window unresponsive. The mouse pointer moves but clicking in the menus or elsewhere results in no response for about 10 seconds, when response returns and context menu appears. During this time, mouse can select other desktops and I have noticed no problem outside the konqueror window. I don't use dolphin but, seeing it reported, here, I tried and duplicated this behavior in dolphin. My recent attempt to duplicate resulted in right-click on this file being successful but, when I dismissed the context menu and right-clicked on the next file down in the window, a 2K .dvds from dvdstyler, the same temporary freeze occurred. I see this randomly, size or type of file not being predictable. Mouse is set for single-click and konqueror/dolphin is details view mode. In my bug search I found a reporter who said turning off gestures in systemsettings > Shortcuts and Gestures > konqueror gestures solved his freeze. I did that but the random behavior persists. I turned off desktop effects (nvidia driver) but that seemed to make the problem worse: During a freeze, moving to another desktop and back caused the konqueror window to be blanked out. The window remains if desktop switching is performed during a freeze with desktop effects enabled: Compositing type: OpenGL, OpenGL mode: Texture from Pixmap, Texture filter: Nearest (fastest), direct rendering enabled. Mouse is Logitech usb-connected simple wheel mouse, board is Asus P5Q Deluxe. Thanks.
@Parameshwara: can you reproduce this behaviour using KDE 4.4.5? Does it happen on particular files like video or with every file?
I am presently running KDE 4.4.4 on Opensuse 11.3 as kDE 4.4.5 at some point of time after an update killed my sound. But on this version, I can't reproduce the Bug. I have tried with Opensuse 11.3 iso which was quickly opened in Ark. I selected an AVI file which was run in Kaffeine. I set Dolphin to offer preview of video in information pane and tried the above avi file, which played nicely with a slight delay. But in all the above cases, my experience of Dolphin 4.4.4 was nowhere like the experience of Bug-Report.Dolphin was quick to respond.
If you all agree we could set this bug as "worksforme".
I have no reason to disagree. What about others?
I have not seen this hang again until now. I've just been able to reproduce it a couple of times. Googling the delay in KDE 4.5, I came across another bug that has some reports similar to what I see: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232054
