Description Gabriel Ramirez 2010-02-14 06:38:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

In my netbook I have my screensaver to kick in 14 minutes require a password in 15

I set powerdevil to manage screen powersaving

in Profiles I set (Performance and Powersaving) the Screen tab to:

Suspend after 16 minutes
Power off after 17 minutes

at first powerdevil works correctly suspending and powering off the screen after the screensaver I go back to the computer type the password but
after few times of:

-screensaver
-suspending screen
-poweringoff screen
-type the password
-working
-repeat

(sometimes after 24 hours of using the computer) the screen don't suspend nor power off instead the screensaver remains

so when I notice which the screensaver remains, I switch profiles to powersaving and going back to perfomance, and powerdevil is able to manage the screen again for a few times more, but one time the screensaver remains

so my workaround is when I will know which I leave the machine for I while, before I leaveI switch the profiles to powersaving and back to performance to be sure which powerdevil will manage the screen powersaving

I think I'm seeing this a well. Any kind of logging we can turn on?

I might have a similar (maybe the same situation).
Fedora 11, just updated from KDE 4.3.X to 4.4.0

Laptop, screensaver kicks in after 1 minute, no password.
Problem is that after ~10 more minutes the screensaver stops refreshing (i.e. the image stays still).
Previously (without having changed anything) the screensaver kept refreshing forever.

I report here the main settings I have (onyl the ones ticked)

screensaver:
-start after 1 min

power management:
-lock screen on resume
-powerdevil
-30 minutes
-AC -> peformance

Then under performance:
-actions: nothing
-screen: enabled
         standby 20 min
         suspend 30 min

What changed from 4.3.X?

I had (by default I think) "Before doing a suspend action, wait" set to 30 minutes. Other comments on the web indicated that this actually should be in seconds?

Where does the powerdevil code live and what process runs it?

in your machine in 4.4 the Desktop Effects are enabled? , when in 4.3 were off, if yes that maybe will the cause of the screensaver freeze,

at least when I has Fedora 11 with a Intel Graphics and KDE 4.3 with desktop effects ( I enabled them ) the machine was freeze at random times sometimes with screensaver, but the cause was the intel driver version 7.X in F11, recompiling version intel driver 8 from F12 in F11 fixed the problem.

I found the config file in ~/.kde/share/config/powerdevilrc but you have to change the 30 to another number to see the setting in the file and it shows 29 or 31

I remember in 4.3? or some past version when before suspending (running out of battery), pop up a notificationyou have 30 seconds to cancel or something like that, but at present (4.4)the machine is running in AC

I bet which only the string (minutes) is wrong

I've checked and I have no desktop effects.
