Comment 1 Peter Penz 2010-02-12 11:51:54 UTC
Thanks for the report! Could you please provide additional information, as I'm unable to reproduce the issue:
- What do you mean with "raw view"? The details view, icons view, column view?
- If it is the details view: did you click on the icon or the directory name?
- What does "nothing" mean: Will the item at least get selected or does Dolphin freeze completely?
Comment 2 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 11:56:20 UTC
i didnt know the english name because i use the german version of kde - i mean column view, the folder/file gets selected but no action happens, if i do it a second time it works, but dolphin doesnt crash or freeze
Comment 3 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 11:57:34 UTC
and it doent happen all the time - only sometimes
Comment 4 Peter Penz 2010-02-12 12:09:36 UTC
Might it be that you clicked on the folder-icon of the column-view and have enabled "[x] Show Selection Markers" (= a kind of green "+" when hovering the item)? In this case disabling them might be wanted in your case (Dolphin Preferences -> General -> [ ] Show Selection Markers).

see http://ppenz.blogspot.com/2008/04/selecting-items.html for more infos about the selection markers...
Comment 6 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 12:14:14 UTC
no its not the selction marks - i know them and this wouldnt be a bug ....

the way to reproduce it is like this:
1.)open dolphin in column view
2.)click on a folder A in column AA - column BB opens
3.) click on a file in column BB (it has to be a file a folder doesnt work)
4.) select another folder C in column AA
5.)folder C gets selected but column BB isnt updated
6.) clicking on folder C a second time updates column BB
Comment 7 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 12:16:27 UTC
it has to be a file a folder doesnt work - a folder wont reproduce it ...
it also sometimes happen to file - but i dont know excatly how to reproduce it...
if it isnt reproduceable for you - is there some way to record a video in kde to show it to you?
Comment 8 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 12:29:42 UTC
another way to reprocude it without opening the file is with the mentioned "selection markers"

1.)open dolphin in column view
2.)click on a folder A in column AA - column BB opens
3.) select at least one file/folder with the "selection markers" in column BB
4.) select another folder C in column AA
5.)folder C gets selected but column BB isnt updated
6.) clicking on folder C a second time updates column BB

seems that when a file in BB is selected the first click on a folder in AA just deselects the file in BB and the second click on a folder in AA updates BB
Comment 9 Jim Jones 2010-02-12 13:32:03 UTC
to be corrent 4.) select another folder C in column AA
is ment to be
4.) click on another folder C in column AA

Sorry for the late reply, I could reproduce the issue now with the steps of comment #8 :-)
Comment 11 Frank Reininghaus 2010-09-08 23:52:46 UTC
Could it be that this issue is fixed by the recent changes in Columns View? I can reproduce in 4.4.4 (Opensuse), but not in trunk.
Comment 12 Frank Reininghaus 2010-11-20 10:58:23 UTC
Works for me in trunk and 4.5 branch. Closing.
