Description Alexander Potashev 2010-01-23 04:56:26 UTC
Version:           1.4 (using 4.3.90 (KDE 4.3.90 (KDE 4.4 RC1)), Gentoo)
Compiler:          x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32

In Dolphin search criteria these options are shared between date, rating and file size criteria:
"Greater Than"
"Greater Than or Equal to"
"Less Than"
"Less Than or Equal to"

They should be split to allow better translations. I think, when split, those strings can be better in English too.

Thanks for the input! May I ask whether you part of the i18n-team? Do you have suggestions for a better English translation for a specific combination?

I think, I am ;)
At least, I have a KDE SVN account and I do and commit Russian translations.

My suggestions:
1. For dates: after/not earlier than/before/no later than;
2. For ratings: higher than/not lower than/lower than/not higher than;
3. For file sizes: bigger than/at least/smaller than/at most.

Another option is to use ">", "⩾", "<", "⩽" -- that's what I'm planning to use in the Russian translation by default (unless we get separate strings).

But I think, it would be better to ask a native English speaker.

Thanks for your input! Yes, the date suggestions make sense and in any case it might be helpful to split the strings...

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

This report does not seem to apply anymore.

Those strings are now inactive in the .po files. So this report does not apply any more.
