Description Oliver Henshaw 2009-11-14 16:18:41 UTC
Version:           0.5.0.3 (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs

Installing a standalone rpm fails with an "unknown error". I have to install it with yum --nogpgcheck.

The sequence of events is:
* kpackagekit simulates the transaction;
* kpackagekit asks me to confirm the transaction;
* kpackagekit immediately presents me with a small window titled "Failed to install file - kpackagekit" with the contents "An unknown error happened."

I first saw this with a repository rpm from rpmfusion - http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration - - it makes no difference whether I open it
in konqueror or download and run kpackagekit on the rpm from dolphin. I also downloaded an rpm from the fedora rawhide repository and tried to install it from dolphin - this failed in the same way.

Packages affected:

PackageKit-0.5.4-0.1.20091029git.fc12.i686
kpackagekit-0.5.0.3-1.fc12.i686

Can you please test with gnome-packagekit? if the same happens this is probably a backend bug.

Re-tested on a recent f13 nightly:

* gnome-packagekit installs fine after asking for authentication.
* kpackagekit appears to process the transaction but never asks for confirmation or authentication. When it finished, kpackagekit tells me it has a message from the package manager: "An untrusted package was installed. The package rpm-fusion-free-release is untrusted." but no package is installed.

PackageKit-0.6.3-1.fc13.i686.rpm
kpackagekit-0.6.0-2.fc13.i686.rpm
gnome-packagekit-2.30.0-2.fc13.i686.rpm

Ok, finally got some time to setup a Fedora 13 VM to investigate the issue.

I've successfully installed flash.rpm (Adobe website) and free/non-free *.rpm for rpmfusion website, all of them complained about the package being untrusted.
(SVN r1164070)

So in KPackageKit 0.6.1 you will have this FIXED :D
