Description m.wege 2009-10-01 07:57:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I try to download this file
http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Copy+file+or+directory+path?content=112873
Unfortunately it is automacally opend in an embedded editor, leaving me no option to save it.
I do not know where the problem is exactly. May it is kde-apps not having marked the file correctly. Because with other filetypes I am asked what to with them.
In this case it would be the best (do not know if possible) if KDE would detect this a service-menu and ask if I want it installed and suggests the appropriate place. Either on root level for all users (then ask for root password) or only on user level.

you can save it with Ctrl + S or File->Save As.

You can disable the embedded editor in Settings->Configure Konqueror->File Association

The first solution does not work because KDE-Apps continues to a download page on left click, which then automatically downloads the file. You need to quick interrupt this, otherwise you will be allready have been forwarded to the editor.
The second solution in this case leaves you with the question which filetype the download will have. That is not obviously in advance. You would have to turn of embedded editor for all filetypes in that case (may be not, but this dialogue confuses me).
So in my opinion there really is a bug, which needs to be fixed. May be in KDE-Apps, which may does not report a file-type correctly (I do not know) or if that is ok, Konqui should do better.
