Version: 4.3.0 (using KDE 4.3.0) Compiler: GCC 4.3.2 Target: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu Configured with: ../gcc-4.3.2/configure --prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-languages=c,c++,fortran,objc,treelang --disable-multilib --enable-c99 --enable-long-long Thread model: posix OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled From Sources Very often wrong message "<Device> doesn't work. Falling back to <other device>" is displayed (for me it for JACK), when playing sounds of notifications (_very_ often for Kopete, especially if several events are occured simultaneously, two contact offline, for instance). But JACK is still alive and even play the notification sound while in its logs some messages like "subgraph starting at xine (7573) timed out (subgraph_wait_fd=11, status = 0, state = Triggered, pollret = 0 revents = 0x0)" appear.
Some more information is needed here: * which phonon backend are you using? * Do you have pulseaudio installed? If you use the gstreamer backend, this could be related to bug 188444.
No, I use Xine backend, but it seems that this bug went away with new versions of Phonon from SVN. I'll look at it more, but now I think it can be closed.
