Version: unknown (using 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2), Kubuntu packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27-14-generic Some background: I have a nForce4 based AMD64 system. I don't use the onboard audio because the amplifier of the primary jack is dead, in Windows I used to remap the audio jacks to solve this but Linux has no such tools (nForce specific). Instead I have an Aureal Vortex au8820 installed. The bug: Only when the system is waking up from hibernation Kubuntu experiences a bug when restoring the volume on the sound card (set_adbctrl fail?). The result is the volume is fixed at zero. I've seen this bug reported with some HP specific hardware but I believe it is much more prevalent. This bug doesn't occur when booting normally but does happen 100% of the time when waking from hibernation. The workaround: After the system has woken up from hibernation I do the following: sudo alsa force-reload sudo kmix nohup amarok & rm nohup.out I'm pretty new to Linux but it seems that ALSA is also (it replaces Phonon?). Anyway I thought you should be aware of this. Also I've tried a variety of ways to get around this, "alsa force-reload" is the only one that will work.
This should be reported to the ALSA mantainers; https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/login_page.php Thanks
