Version: (using KDE 3.5.10) OS: Linux Installed from: Fedora RPMs I tried to use k3b in Fedora 10 (3.5.10) to rip CDs, and was amazed that this feature is broken. I have no idea who to contact about it. I don't know if it's a Fedora problem or a k3b problem. Or a CDDB problem. When I rip a CD, the dialog pops up and says "multiple inexact" entries in CDDB. The only thing in the list is a funny square character. This is true even for CDs that ought to have only one CDDB entry and not be ambiguous for several different albums. Strangely, only one google hit for this bug. http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=58024.0 This has broken very recently. I haven't ripped a CD in some time, but it worked as recently as a few weeks ago. [This is a duplication of a mistake I made and sent to the general KDE list -- this is a confusing bug reporting interface! The K3B site switches to a KDE site without warning. I thought I selected "k3b" from the list of applications, when I selected "kde" instead by mistake. But "k3b" isn't even listed as an application. I had to search for it, and the web site forgot all the text I had entered.]
I see this too on fedora 10. I'll add that I reproduced it with the F11 KDE preview image, on a separate machine. And that the audiocd:// kio thingy in dolphin gets the correct metadata. Packaged affected: k3b-1.0.5-6.fc10.i386 k3b-1.0.5-8.fc11.i586
Created attachment 34178 [details] .xsession-errors from k3b startup with cd inserted I tested on a clean system with the fedora 11 preview, as mentioned above. I tested with a CD I'd successfully ripped in k3b, a few months ago. When I insert the cd, I see this in dmesg: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE,SUGGEST_OK sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current] ILI sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: Illegal mode for this track end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 And then the attached file in .xsession-errors when I start k3b. There's no further output when I select the audio cd in the left-hand pane, and when the cddb dialog comes up. Note: Looking through my collection, the last cd I ripped was ripped on 2009-04-17.
Kubuntu 9.04, same issue. When attempting to access CDDB, comes up with error "K3b found multiple inexact CDDB entries. Please select one" then offers a list of one option, which is a square character. FWIW, the PClinuxOS forum link is still active; I've posted about this there recently.
The problem appears to have resolved itself, at least for me. I'll note that k3b hasn't changed since last october on this system, so it was most likely a problem with the cddb provider. http://www.freedb.org/en/forum/read.php?1,677 (I needed to refresh a couple of times to see anything) describes a similar problem foobar200 users have been seeing. So perhaps it just was a problem with freedb2.org (tracktype.org) which k3b uses by default (at least the fedora version). A quick websearch suggests that tracktype.org syncs with monthly dumps from another cddb provider (or at least it used to). So that could be the smoking gun. I've now switched to the musicbrainz freedb gateway, since even the newly working freedb2.org had trouble recognising one of my old GYBE albums. In summary, this was most likely a problem with the cddb provider that k3b uses, not k3b itself.
Hello I was starting experiencing the same problem at the date I am posting on ubuntu jaunty, so I did as described on my site for my own future reference: http://ajoliveira.com/ajoliveira/uk/software/k3b.php
