Description Christoph Bartoschek 2009-04-17 08:53:32 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I have configured several timezones to show in the clock tool tip. Restarting KDE does not make any problem. The setting is preserved. However the applet looses its settings when I remove it from the panel and readd it.

This is very annoying because one easily removes the applet while switching the time zone.

When you remove the clock you are removing its instance and its configuration, if you add a new one, it creates a new one (with blank configuration). It's the same if you try to add a second clock, it will start with a clean configuration.

How you easily remove the clock while switching timezone ?. May be you have to lock your panel to not delete the clock applet by error when you try to get to the clock's configuration.

Thanks

To switch timezone I have to right click on the clock. Then a menu appears. The lowest entry is "Digitale Uhr entfernen" (Remove digital clock). One has then to select the first entry. Using the touchpad or even a mouse it happens often that I release the mouse button while moving to the top of the menu above the lowest entry.

Sometimes this even happens when I release the mouse button before I select the entry: Wobbling the mouse pointer a little such that the last entry is selected is enough.

Given this the placement of the remove entry is wrong. It should be the first one such that it is not selected by accident.

But additionally I do not like the idea that applet configurations are lost if one removes them. What if one wants to temporarily remove one applet to save some space? After readding one has to do the whole configuration again.

Yes, this is another bug , already reported: bug 188880

I'm going to convert this report to a wish to implement that feature (don't lose settings on remove widget)

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
