Description Rusty Russell 2009-02-02 05:01:40 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I hadn't installed kdeplasma-addons, so trying to add a fuzzy-clock plasma gave me the error shown. There are two weird things here:

1) Clicking on the big red X does nothing.
2) Hovering over (some parts of?) the widget gives another error popup, which I can't get to before it fades away.

The screencast isn't great (cursor weirdness), but you can see the problem.

Screencast of interaction with error plasmoid
Comment 2 Dario Andres 2009-04-27 01:39:45 UTC
First of all this seems a packaging issue. If the package that contains the plasmoid is not installed, the plasmoid entry should not appear in the "Add Widgets" dialog.
This error could also appear when you have the plasmoid installed and running, and then you manually uninstall it (removing the package that contains it), so the next time this "Not found plasmoid" message will appear.

Here using:

Qt: 4.5.0 + qt-copy-patches-942255
KDE: 4.2.70 (KDE 4.2.70 (KDE 4.3 >= 20090415))
kdelibs svn rev. 958964 / kdebase svn rev. 958965
on ArchLinux i686 - Kernel 2.6.29.1

I manually removed an installed applet from the disk to force this issue. The error plasmoid appears, and the popup appears Ok when you hover the red-cross icon, and it doesn't flicker that way here.

Using a current KDE are you still experiencing this issue? Have you tried if the other tooltips popups flicker that way too ?(when hovering the K menu, the pager applet, or the taskbar)

Thanks

1) the big red 'x' is just an icon, not actually a removal button. though it is interesting that you perceived it as such. i'll have to test that out on some more users ...

2) the little popup is a tooltip; when you can see the whole item (e.g. it's on the desktop and expanded large enough or on a very large panel) it is duplicate information, but when the item can't be seen well (e.g. it is on a panel and so reduced to just an icon) it's rather helpful to figure out what that nasty 'x' is ;)

in any case, yes, this would be due to the mis-installation of a widget. how did you install the fuzzy clock, and where did you get it from?

OK, I've re-checked this with latest KDE Ubuntu packages (4:4.2.2-0ubuntu). Now I'm more familiar with KDE, I no longer perceive the big red X as a close button, but note the side panel. The identical-looking popup is a bit odd though.

Agreed this is a packaging issue: removing kdeplasma-addons should remove item from menu.

Thanks!
Rusty.
