Version: (using KDE 4.2.0) Installed from: Gentoo Packages I have the default effect activated (no desktop effect, and same problem with the desktop effect at on), kde use 5% at idle in ksysguard (bad for powersaving). But my problem it's here, when I move the mouse on top of ksysguard I have 30% of my cpu used, when I move it before 2 windows I have more than 70%. And that's lag. My config: AMD Turion X2 @ 1.6GHz, 1GB of ddr2, ATI radeon X200M. All packages of X server and related is the most recent (same problem with the older)
Do you still experience the problems with recent version of KDE, eg. 4.5? Also from your description it's not quite clear which component of KDE is using 5% of CPU. Are you referring to KWin or a different application?
needs the info requested in comment #1 and I assume the problems are not happening any more with 4.6
