Description Morgan Cox 2009-01-30 16:25:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Compiler: gcc version 4.3.2 (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu12)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

With Desktop effects enabled (this doesn't occur unless they are)

After running any opengl 3d game (which I usually play at a lower resolution that my desktop resolution) when I return to the desktop the very right side is black - I can get rid of it by clicking the show desktop - so its not a major bug...

It only happens after running in 3d - i.e I can go into a game that uses a 2d menu and it will not happen - only when I go in to the 3d part of the game

The happens 100% of the time - For example supertuxkart

I would like to say that KDE4.2 is simply awesome - I have been one of the people who has used gnome for the last year - I am 100% going back to kde4 now...

Specs:-
Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
geforce 8500 - latest driver
amd x2 4600

I can reproduce this on my GeForce 8600 with 256.35 using trunk r1184315. In fact it seems there's a black border drawn around the screen area occupied by the game (about 30 px wide I guess).

Have no supertuxkart, but it does _not_ happen with (nvidia/GT7600/256.53) and various iterations of Id tech shooters or .. etracer ( yes - keep it! ;-)

Please notice that for performance reasons you should rather suspend GL compositing before launching GL games (fullscreen or not)

Does the game use a different aspect than your monitor?

@Michael: is that a windowed version?
Comment 4 Michael Leupold 2010-10-10 23:27:18 UTC
I was using enemy territory in fullscreen but used a different resolution than my desktop to reproduce the bug. I'm pretty sure the problem does not occur when using the same resolution (which I normally do).

wolfenstein? can't reproduce with it either, but i somewhen shut down most kded services (and prevented their autostart) and cannot reproduce the "FS SDL shrinks windows" bug either (which i consider somehow related...)
Comment 6 Martin Flöser 2012-04-08 19:04:39 UTC
The issue has been reported against a very old version of KWin and also very old versions of the NVIDIA driver. I hope that these issues are fixed by now :-)

I'm setting this bug to unmaintained as the version is just too old. If you still experience the issues please update the relevant bug information.
