Version: 4.3.0 (using KDE 4.2.0) Compiler: gcc 4.3.2 OS: Linux Installed from: Gentoo Packages Phonon (or the systemsettings device list) is missing some ALSA channel, including the main channel (analog front). This is a Creative Audigy LS onboard chip using the CA0106. When including this card, please also take a look at Bug 167328, which contains informations about a pretty similar card (Audigy SE). Here's the information provided by the soundcardinfo.sh script. Thanks for fixing! $ ./soundcardinfo.sh /proc/asound/cards: 0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106 MSI K8N Diamond MB [SB0438] at 0xde00 irq 16 1 [M1 ]: USB-Audio - MIDI 1 x 1 Phonic MIDI 1 x 1 at usb-0000:00:02.1-8.4, full speed /proc/asound/pcm: 00-00: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1 00-01: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1 00-02: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1 00-03: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1 ......... # Creative Labs SB Audigy LS Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Follow-up: All channels actually show up when starting hald before kdm/kde. I'm leaving this report open in case the output above contains useful information which can be added to the phonon hardware database.
Thanks, HAL is required for lots of pieces of kde to work properly. Phonon is one of those :)
